A town on the banks of the Cher
The former commune of Bourré, now a district of Montrichard, is home to an unsuspected treasure trove: 400 km of underground galleries and troglodyte dwellings. These can be visited at La Magnanerie, on the water’s edge, and you can also discover cavities at the whim of a restaurant or a mushroom cellar.
Montrichard also boasts a beach that was created during the paid vacations of 1936. A popular spot, it offers safe conditions for swimming in the Cher (the beach is supervised in summer) or renting a pedalo, all with a breathtaking view of the village.
What to do around Montrichard?
The most popular tourist activity near Montrichard is, of course, a visit to the chateaux of the Loire Valley. The choice is so vast that we never tire of venturing out in search of a new fortress to discover and the secrets it has to reveal.
It would be impossible to list them all, but Amboise and the adjoining Clos Lucé are a must-see, in the footsteps of François Iᵉʳ and Leonardo da Vinci. Chenonceau is also a must-see, with its iconic five-arch bridge over the Cher.
